First Meeting of Pints and Purls – October 15

Posted on Updated on

A message from interest group leader, Alison Brown:

I was in touch with the Beaufort Pub and they can accommodate our group on Monday nights.  I’ve booked us in for the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:30 pm.  The meeting will last as long as we want, but will probably end between 8:00 and 8:30 pm.  The address is  173 Dundas St E Belleville ON K8N 1C9 Canada

The time you arrive is up to you, but I’ll be there for 5:30 pm.  Remember this can be just a drink, or dinner and a drink or no drink and just knitting/crocheting.  You can arrive and leave at any time you want.

Don’t forget to bring your knitting, crocheting or any other craft you can do on your lap.  If you want to learn how to knit or crochet – don’t buy anything… I have LOTS of extras and can lend you something to get started.
Once we are there, we can talk about how we want to move forward with this group.
We could
Thanks again for signing up and I’ll see you on Oct 15.

There was an excellent turnout for the September Coffee Party which was the first meeting of the 2018 – 2019 year. The room was abuzz as returning members and new members paid their membership fees, investigated the numerous interest groups, socialized and enjoyed the delicious refreshments provided by the Special Events committee.

Gardens and The Arts in The Netherlands

Posted on Updated on

Five  CFUW  members (Barbara Pipher, Janet Simpson, Janet MacDonald, Mary Miller, and Sue Thoms) went to Holland from April 17 to 26, our purpose being to see the masses of flowering spring bulbs growing throughout Holland. We were certainly not disappointed! The Keukenhof Gardens were absolutely outstanding and from the train rides we took, we witnessed acres and acres of farm fields filled with all kinds of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. Even the weather cooperated by sending us warm sunshine and no rain.
Our downtown Amsterdam hotel gave us easy access to the Central Train Station as well as restaurants and shops. As a group, we also visited the traditional fishing villages of Volendam & Marken, the historic towns of Haarlem and Delft…for the pottery of course, and the Rijksmuseum to see some of the old masters paintings. One could throw in two canal cruises, a windmill tour, a cheese factory tour, a wooden shoe factory tour, a concert and a ferris wheel ride to round out the activites. Some ladies went to see Anne Frank’s home and some went to Rembrandt’s home. Janet Simpson went on a successful adventure to northern Holland to find the gravesite of her uncle that was shot down in WWII.

Arts Outings Announcement

There will be a silent auction at the February general meeting for those members who admired and would like to own one of the creative aprons worn by the Arts Outings interest group at the recent luncheon.

The unique table centrepieces from the luncheon will be on display at the meeting as well.
