Garden Tour 2020 Cancelled:
Given the nature and extent of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the CFUW Garden Tour Committee is cancelling the July 4, 2020 Town & Country Garden Tour.
We are saddened to arrive at this conclusion but base our decision on concern for the well-being of participants.
Keeping in mind the club’s on-going efforts to award scholarships every year to deserving local students, we remind you that donations to the Scholarship Trust Fund are always welcome. Go to the cfuwbellevile.com website, click on “Scholarships” in the upper tool bar and scroll down to the “orange” print line, “Make a donation…”.
On a more cheerful note, we look forward to hosting the CFUW Town & Country Garden Tour in 2021, featuring the usual lovely gardens, a nourishing lunch, an extensive raffle table and more.
See you next year!
Irene and Karen
We just received word from Jeunesses Musicales Canada that they have cancelled all concerts until after April 13th. This includes our concert.
I’d like to thank everyone for their help with this years efforts. It is unfortunate but probably the right decision.
This year’s Valentine Luncheon Bridge was held on February 13, 2020 at St. Thomas Church. Twenty-two tables of four, or 88 people enjoyed a luncheon provided by club members followed by an afternoon of bridge. This year’s menu was Carrot Soup (Jess Chamber’s recipe from our very own cookbook), an assortment of sandwiches and Sticky Toffee Date Cake. At the end of the afternoon prizes were awarded to the winners as well as a number of door prizes.
Twenty-six members of the club contributed to the event in some way or other by donating prizes, providing food, setting up the tables, greeting the guests at the door, serving and cleaning up. A true team effort! As a result, $1710 was presented to the scholarship trust fund.
Thanks to all for a very successful event.

Coming in March! Tickets available on our website and at the Belleville Public Library.
Thank you to the CanLit Dinner interest group who were the hosts this year for the delicious annual luncheon.
One of last year’s scholarship recipients, Jaunita Da Silva, spoke to us briefly about what receiving the scholarship has meant for her.
Before the short general meeting we were entertained by four talented students from the Michael Faulkner School of Music.
Yikes! January 7th already: our January 16 luncheon is on the horizon.
AND the deadline for purchasing tickets, Monday January 13, is fast
approaching. As you can appreciate, we need to have firm numbers in order to complete our preparations.
If you are planning to attend and still need a ticket, on-line purchase
is an option, or you may contact Pauline Lingard.
Last night at the CFUW Christmas Dinner, we once again had a successful club fund-raising event. All the money raised last night is used by our club membership to offset travel costs when club members attend Ontario Council or other CFUW events, whenever they go forward to represent Belleville & District.
The Silent Auction raised $1,013 and the Raffle Ticket Sales raised $309 for a grant total of$1,322.
Thank you for contributing to this success! Merry Christmas everyone!
