Silent Auction Results

Last night at the CFUW Christmas Dinner, we once again had a successful club fund-raising event.  All the money raised last night is used by our club membership to offset travel costs when club members attend Ontario Council or other CFUW events, whenever they go forward to represent Belleville & District.

The Silent Auction raised $1,013 and the Raffle Ticket Sales raised $309 for a grant total of$1,322

Thank you for contributing to this success!  Merry Christmas everyone!

Don’t forget to bring your items for the Silent Auction and a child’s book for the Belleville Firefighters’ Toy Drive. Last year they mentioned that they are often short of “chapter books” for older children.

The 20th Annual Garden Tour

Posted on

A message from the co-chairs:
Good evening, Ladies,

Despite the shower in PEC and the humid air mass over the area, today’s
20th Annual Town & Country Garden Tour was a wonderful event.

For folks who like numbers, we sold about 260 tickets.

Just as importantly, our gardeners, our guests and our volunteers tell
us that they greatly enjoyed the day.

Here are some quotes:

     * “That sandwich in the lunch:  I am picky about sandwiches but
wow, that sandwich was REALLY good!”
     * “Beautiful gardens plus vintage cars: perfect combo!”
     * From four new attendees from Deseronto/Napanee:  “We heard the
interview promoting the Garden Tour this morning on the Steve
Marlin radio show and we decided to attend! It has been great!”
     * A returning guest:  “I am from England and I come every year:
why wouldn’t I, with the gardens you have around here?”
     * A local guest: “I had such a fabulous time as a gardener/host at
last year’s tour that I had to come this year as a guest”.
     * After spending the afternoon in the SW-style garden, Carolyn
Cockerline predicts that “many local gardeners will be inspired
to incorporate SW-style features into their gardens, in the
       future”.

We thank you, the members of CFUW Belleville and District, for helping
to make today’s tour such a rewarding and memorable experience for
everyone involved. It was great fun!

Garden Pre-tour

A message from one of our garden owners after the pre-tour viewing which allows the garden owners and the volunteers who will be busy on Saturday to see every garden:

I was impressed by all the work and planning that you and others have to do to pull off such a worthy project. I’m pleased that my garden will help your club to raise money for scholarships and especially pleased that you are offering a scholarship to an adult student. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of it.
